Cameras and lenses need to be identified and specified for the intended purpose.
Health and safety surveillance for example needs a camera and lens, which can monitor a relatively wide area with less detail i.e. movement of personnel, dangers and hazards on the property can be seen but a good face recognition is usually not necessary as authorised person’s can be recognized because the employer or security staff member have previous knowledge of their whereabouts.

Crime detection and prevention requires significantly more detail of events and needs to have facial recognition of head and shoulder concentrated recording of personnel coming and leaving the building (authorized or not). Narrow view high resolution cameras and lenses are usually specified for this purpose together with good quality digital recording facilities which is a must, if these images are to be presented as viable evidence in a court of law.
